Code of Ethics & Behaviour

GENERIC CODE OF ETHICS & BEHAVIOUR
This applies to everyone in the sport regardless of role
1. Always participate in the right spirit showing respect for others.
2. Never use inappropriate language or gestures.
3. Take reasonable measures to protect your own safety and the safety of others.
4. Always promote the sport in the best possible light.
5. Protect yourself from verbal or physical abuse and threatening or intimidating behaviour.
6. Abide by the bowls Equality Policy.
7. Abide by the bowls Safeguarding Policy, Guidelines and Templates.
8. Take appropriate action if there is evidence that the code is being abused.
CODE OF ETHICS & BEHAVIOUR FOR NGB STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS, CLUBS AND COUNTY ASSOCIATIONS
This group has an essential role to play in upholding and implementing the code. All should be advocates of equality, fair play and safety. In addition to the generic ethics and behaviours the following are more specific to the roles of this group.
a) Operate within the letter and spirit of the code
b) Treat everyone with dignity and respect
c) Listen carefully to all stakeholders and respect their views
d) Promote the bowls Safeguarding Policy, Guidelines and Templates
e) Promote the Equality Policy
CODE OF ETHICS & BEHAVIOUR FOR PLAYERS
In addition to the generic ethics and behaviours the following are more specific to this group.
1. Respect other players, coaches, spectators, officials and umpires.
2. Never participate when under the influence of alcohol or drugs
3. Accept success and failure
4. Set a positive example for young participants and spectators
5. Never use foul, sexist, abusive, racist or any prejudicial language and do not tolerate it from anyone else.

In addition to the generic ethics and behaviours the following are more specific to this group
a) Remember that bowls is FUN
b) Applaud effort and good play as well as success
c) Appreciate good play by the opposition
