CLUB HISTORY

The club was started in 1937 by keen and dedicated villagers intent on creating a community amenity for the pleasure and enjoyment of the local population. Since it’s formation members have worked together over the years to expand and develop this club so that today it has one of the best bowling greens and club facilities in the region.
We have an active social programme and our Presidents hold annual events to raise money for their local charities. We are an ambitious club and are associated with Bowls Leicestershire and Bowls England.

BRAND NEW PAVILION FOR ENDERBY BOWLS CLUB - 1991
April 20th is a very special day in the Diary of Enderby Bowling Club, as it marks the start of a new playing season at their Mill Lane venue. But people on their way to the Leisure Centre opposite will have noticed that during this closed season, the site has been a hive of activity. Gone are the old wooden buildings which have served the Club since 1937, added to after the Second World War.
In their place, phoenix-like has risen a splendid new brick-built pavilion.
For many years the club members have dreamed of a new building to replace the old, which has served them adequately over the years but which has become increasingly dilapidated. The Bowlers have sought to raise the money in a number of ways, galas, social evenings, whist drives, flea markets, car rallies, cheese and wine parties and numerous other events. But over the years their efforts have been outstripped by the escalating cost of building. Their dream of a new Pavilion seemed to remain just that. But looking within the Club they discovered builders, brick-layers, plumbers, electricians, plasterers, painters, carpenters, tilers and many pairs of willing hands eager to help. So they built their Pavilion themselves.
It was a daunting task and the past few months have seen set-backs, disappointments, problems and snags. But all the time and work has gone forward and today Enderby Bowling Club can be justifiably proud of it’s magnificent achievement. Now they have a comfortable function room with adjoining changing rooms and toilets with facilities for the disabled including ramps, and a gleaming modern kitchen well equipped with an array of appliances to provide comfortable succour after each game. All the members have contributed in some way by supporting of fund-raising functions and helping in any way possible with the erection and furnishing of the building.
When Mrs Mary Cox who is the oldest member of the club and assisted by the two Presidents. Mr Derek Cooke and Mrs Pearl Withers cuts the tape and declares the new Pavilion open, Enderby Bowling Club will proudly continue bowling.
