We would also like to welcome Bob Potter who has joined as a social member. We hope you enjoy your first season with us and look forward to seeing you all at many matches and events.
NOBBY COOPER GALA DAY
Thank you to everyone who participated in this event last Sunday, which was organised by our President, John Hanford. We all enjoyed the match - and the sausage rolls, cakes and tea afterwards! The winning team members who will receive the Nobby Cooper Trophy at our Presentation Evening in November were: Kevan Wright, Dave Cooke and John Hanford. Congratulations! Runners up were: Josie Russell, Barry Perkins and Matt Moseley. Thank you to all those who helped to set up the rinks and assisted with the catering and clearing up afterwards. It made a huge difference and was greatly appreciated.
PRESIDENT'S DAY - SATURDAY 14TH JUNE 2PM
We hope as many members as possible will attend this very special event on Saturday 14th June at 2pm in celebration of John's year as President. Bowlers and spectators are most welcome. Members are asked to pay £3pp. The Bar will be open. The buffet following the match will be free for everyone and John would like to give the money raised from members to his chosen charities: Breast Cancer Research and Prostate Cancer UK. There will be a raffle and we would welcome any donations of prizes. Please sign up on the outside notice board by Saturday 7th June, so that we know numbers for the catering. As always, we would be most grateful for any offers of help. inside or outside, before or after the match. We hope you will be able to join us.😀
You may also have noticed a rather large cuddly bear in the clubhouse. You are invited to guess the name for £1 per go and write your own name underneath. Please put your money in the box provided. All proceeds will go to the above charities. Thank you.
MATCHES AND COMPETITIONS
We are now well into the season and our teams have played a number of matches. If you would like to keep abreast of the results and our position in the different leagues, please visit our club website: enderbybowlsclub.com and click on the link at the top right hand side of the Home page. You will find results for the leagues and friendly matches.
Many of our club and county competitions are already taking place. Please ensure that you have played the first round of our club competitions by the date specified on the notice board outside the club. Good luck, Everyone!😄
MATS ON THE GREEN
Since our Opening Gala, we have been very fortunate with the weather and have enjoyed some lovely, sunny days. However, this has meant watering the Green regularly. Over the last few weeks, this has resulted in a more vulnerable, soft surface and a few unwanted dents. Consequently, the mats were put down before the match yesterday as a precautionary measure. This may happen from time to time as last year. Putting the mats down occasionally will help to avoid an uneven and irreparable surface and therefore better conditions for all bowlers. Please speak to our Greenkeeper, Charlie, if you have any queries about the Green.
CLUB SHIRTS ETC.
We have the following new Club Shirts for sale:
Ladies: 1 x Size 12 and 2 x Size 14
Mens: 1 x Large
We also have some good as new, freshly laundered clothing:
Ladies: 3 x Small shirts and 2 x Medium shirts
1 x Emsmorm grey trousers size 16, leg 27"
Mens: 3 x grey trousers - 34w x 31" leg
1 x 2XL white Taylor jacket.
Please contact me if you are interested in any of these items of clothing. All donations to club funds.
Kind regards,
Josie

LATEST NEWS
Dear Members,
Now that the new season is up and running, we are preparing the grounds so that we are ready to plant our summer flowers in a couple of weeks.
Next Sunday, the planter outside which is sadly beyond repair, will be replaced with a new rectangular raised bed.
You may have also noticed that there is weeding to be done around the Green. Consequently, we have decided to have a 'Weeding' morning next Tuesday 13th May at 9.30am.Tea/coffee and biscuits will of course be provided.
We would be very grateful for any offers of help with this so that we can keep our grounds looking well cared for.
We hope you will be able to join us! 😀
Kind regards,
Josie

OPENING GALA
Thank you to all those who attended our Opening Gala last Sunday. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, spectators and bowlers alike - even though it took some of those playing (including me!) some time to adjust to outdoor bowling again!🙈 Luckily the weather stayed fine - albeit a little chilly. Together with the raffle and Kathy's Easter Egg Chicks, we raised approximately £400 for our club funds. Thank you, everyone 😄

OPENING GALA - SUNDAY 13th APRIL - 2PM
We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the club on Sunday for our first match of the season.
We hope to start playing at 2pm after a few words from our President John Hanford. Dress code is GREYS.
As previously mentioned, we request £3pp to include tea and cake after the match. Donations of raffle prizes will be most welcome and all proceeds from the day will go into our club funds.
Please note that there will be some secondhand items for sale including white trousers, a few shirts and some sets of bowls etc. for those who may be interested.
SATURDAY MIXED FRIENDLY MATCH - 19TH APRIL
The list is now up outside for our first Saturday match against Glenfield at 2pm. This is a HOME match. Please note that, as previously mentioned, the dress code is WHITES for Saturdays only. White trousers, crops or tailored shorts are fine. All other matches will be played in greys unless specified otherwise e.g. club finals etc. Please sign up if you are available.
THE GREEN
The green is our most important asset and we must look after it, one of the reasons we insist on the correct footwear being worn before walking on the green. This is to protect the green, not only from heel marks but from anything that could be carried on footwear that would harm the grass.
The pathways around the green and approaching the club have been sprinkled with rock salt to prevent anyone slipping on ice. However, it is poisonous and will kill the grass. Someone has arrived at the club and, I assume, seen a tennis ball on the green and walked on to retrieve it. There are now distinctive shoe marks across the green and I am fearful the grass will not recover. This damage cannot be rectified until the autumn.
PLEASE do not walk on the green without changing your footwear or at the very least running your shoes under the tap or hosepipe first.
Charlie Riggall - Greenkeeper
