REMEMBRANCE DAY GALA 2025

REMEMBRANCE GALA

Thank you so much to everyone who attended this event yesterday - bowlers, spectators and our special guests.

We managed one and a half hours of bowling before the heavens opened but our resilient bowlers stayed out there for another half an hour before coming in for tea. Special thanks to Liz Oakes who kindly stepped in towards the end when one of our bowlers was struggling with an injury, only to get very wet! Our sincere apologies.

It was lovely to meet up with past bowlers and families who came to remember those who were no longer with us. Many of them saw people whom they haven't seen for years. As a relative newcomer of just 3 years, I have heard many of the names but it was nice to meet people and listen to their stories from times gone by.

Thank you to all those who brought raffle prizes and bought tickets. Through your generosity we raised an amazing £157 for Bowls Leicestershire Benevolent Fund which supports bowlers and their families in difficult times.

The winners were our President John Hanford and Matt Moseley.

The runners up of the match were: Don Hames and Mo Noble.

They each received a bottle of wine. Once again John had to step in at the last minute for a player and, to his embarrassment, won the match. Next time we promise to have a couple of reserves waiting on standby, John! 😂

We would also like to thank all those members who very kindly helped before and after the match, setting up the rinks, preparing the tables, helping behind the bar and clearing away at the end. There were so many that we hesitate to name them for fear of missing anyone out. Rest assured that your help didn't go unnoticed and we were very grateful. As a result, we were all home by 6pm 😀
